Why do the words above cause so much heart ache for people? If you think about it, we are all in sales even if we choose not to admit it. We have the tendency to think it’s must worse than it is because of the old taboo way of selling. It’s so funny to look back at some of the original sales techniques I was taught. Although I learned some great basics, I’ve had to adjust and readjust along the way. The key to staying top in your field is to constantly find new and creative ways to do things differently.

I would like to address networking. Please don’t join every group known to man thinking you need to be part of everything. It’s been proven time and time again that if you become very specialized in your field, you will create a bigger income potential and truly serve those who want and need you and your service or product. I am focused strictly on helping private duty home care businesses increase their sales with my proven strategies. I don’t want everyone to be my client and I don’t need everyone to be my client. Because I am so niched, I don’t do a lot of networking at this point. I just don’t have the time.

Next, the uuuggghhh 30 second commercial, also known as the pitch. I always found that most people are a snooze fest trying to communicate what they do. The problem is they focus too much on what they do and not enough on who they ARE. I don’t care if you sell yellow polka pens. I want to know you and what your yellow polka dot pens will do for me.

Last but certainly not least, yet my favorite, S-A-L-E-S. It’s a funny word. We all love to buy but hate to be sold. Think about it, most people love to buy a house, car, shoes, new suit, a vacation, the list can go on. What we don’t like is being sold! We want sales on our own terms and honestly, if you come across a well seasoned and successful sales person, you will not even know when you’ve been sold. They are THAT good. Sales is not the dirty 5 letter word but rather a way people connect with one another to uncover a need and offer a solution.
